PKD Updates Training and Adds Two New Modules for 2012 |
|
As every year, PKD updated all training modules during January. This year however the update was more extensive than previous. Engineering and Design was completely reproduced, and includes many of the examples, graphics,
and rules of thumb contained in Oil and
Gas Pipeline Engineering which was co-authored by Tom Miesner and David
Vanderpool and included as Chapter 26 in the Handbook of Transportation
Engineering, released by McGraw Hill in March of 2011. Pipeline Construction was expanded to include stations construction. Accordingly it was renamed Oil and Gas Pipeline Construction. Two new modules were produced in 2011, Case
Studies in Abnormal Operations, and U.S.
Hazardous Liquids Regulations For a list of the updates and a description of the new modules please click here. |

PKD Teaches Oil and Gas Pipeline Fundamentals January 25 and 26 |
|
Attendees at the class included employees of Centurion, ConocoPhillips, Enterprise, LOOP, Solomon & Associates, Telvent, and Myoco Supply. Comments include the following: - Maintenance module - Very interesting to see the tools, technology, and methods used. Smart pigs are cool.
- Economics module - For someone without a background in finance and economics such as myself, this knowledge is very useful in creating business cases and evaluating ROI for our customers.
- Construction module - Very good pictures. Really helped me understand.
- Economics module - Best short, understandable description of MLPs I have ever heard.
- Hydraulics module - The "hydraulic tools" section was very interesting. This will be helpful in conversing with our engineering staff as we discuss business planning.
- Energy Pipelines module - Good mix of maps, pictures, and explanation.
- Leak Detection module - Upset scenarios were really good.

A pipeline operating company for which PKD taught Oil and Gas Pipeline Fundamentals in 2011 recently sent the following e-mail... "Good Morning Tom,
Last year’s Pipeline Fundamentals class was such a
huge success that we would like to host possibly two more this year. The
first one we are shooting for the 3rd week in February. Would
you be available for the two day session?" For information regarding classes please click here. |

Pipeline Video Training Series is in Post Production - Will be Available Soon |
|
PKD is producing a series of video based training modules. Each module will contain video footage shot live during a recent class, accompanied by a color pdf containing each of the handouts discussed. Video from the 3 cameras used during the shoot and the audio captured during the class is currently in post production which involves selecting the appropriate camera, synching audio to video, and making various cosmetic edits to enhance quality. The following modules: - Central Control Room Operations (70 minutes),
- Pipeline Field Operations (35 minutes), and
- Pipeline Economics (40 minutes),
are complete and are being currently being packaged for market. Additional videos including: - Energy Pipelines,
- Pipeline Hydraulics,
- Scada and Controls,
- Leak Detection,
- Equipment and Components,
- Pipeline Maintenance,
- U. S. Pipeline Regulations,
- Engineering and Design, and
- Pipeline and Station Construction,
are currently in the editing process. Plans are to release one each week except for Equipment and Components, and Pipeline Maintenance with will require two weeks each due to their length. Clients can choose to use each module as stand along training or they can supplement the training with their own or PKD subject matter experts. Video clips or selected portions of the classes will be released soon. To request more information please click here.
